I was born in Buenos Aires, I lived two thirds of my life in the USA, most of it in Puerto Rico, now in Texas. I was not used to the conjunction of extreme temperatures with services that do not work,
In Puerto Rico I lived the experience of Hurricane Maria taking my house with my things and surviving for several months without water or electricity, but with the advantage of warm temperatures and natural resources at hand.
In Texas it is something else. Houston is supposed to be an advanced city. Here’s NASA, damn it. The electricity comes from wind turbines (which they say is cheap energy, but it doesn’t show on the bills). The reality is that this winter “storm” arrives (which was only about lowering the temperature and snow, without winds or anything like that) and the electricity service falls and with it the heating of all homes (in gas is used in the north of the USA and it is curious that in an oil-producing state there is no cheap gas available to all).
The cut lasted only two days, enough for us to be left without provision of food or transport (and of course: neither work) … The cold was intense, it was scary to go to sleep fearing to die frozen at night, he ate what was in house, no cooking, everything was closed …
I remember the night before I thought: Well tomorrow maybe there will be no electricity either, but I get up and go to a FastFood and eat a good breakfast … But in the morning everything was covered with snow: no safe streets … no open FastFoods … no nothing…
At night I called my friend AM who lives in Syria… I was worried about our situation.
They know about this. They have a harsh winter, right now, they almost never have electricity and the heating there is with diesel, which is scarce and expensive … in an oil-producing country … They face the nights covered with blankets, who have them, the others … die … Food is scarce and expensive … but that’s not all …
Bombs fall there … or missiles … I don’t think they see the difference … it’s just a matter of not getting a fence … nothing else can be done … and this takes YEARS.
Syria was a modern and thriving country, but with the defect of having wealth that the elite wants for them, as always.
Syria is in the middle of an imported war: Russians, Americans, Isis, Islamic Fundamentalists… all in one messy and chaotic whole.
What our rulers do to Syria (and other countries) WE ARE DOING. It is our responsibility to shout to our representatives: NO MORE WAR, NO MORE INTERVENTION BASED ON LIES !!!

With what is happening, all together, in our homes and in those of our brothers on the planet, it is enough to declare a state of civil alert, to show our military that they are no longer the champions of freedom, but the defenders of the right to pernada of the master. No more lies, no more cruelty.
Do not believe when they tell you that humanity was always like this … that’s another lie. The humanity that was conquered and modified was very different, it was glorious, peaceful, supportive, musical …
